Who do I follow on social media and why?

***Bear in mind most of this information although only relevant to Twitter gives you a good incite into other places micro sites and social sharing places and accounts you create. ***
Twitter retweets require further investigation. Often when a retweet occurs the person is partially interested in allowing you so its good to take a look at their Twitter account.
First look at the name is it a real name or some sort of niche, if its a niche is it relevant i.e. would you want to follow this person.

Getting the gravity right on social media.

Another thing to examine is how many followers they have in ratio to how many people they follow. Sites like Manage Flitter earmark certain ratios so its good if you observe this sort of thing as and when it comes in. Manage flitter is easy to join and gives the gravity and all sorts of other metrics, helps keep up to date with people who may not follow you back and also detects the occasional spam account that Twitter may already be aware of.
If the ratio is equal or they only follow a medium amount compared to a larger amount of followers this is someone who retweets your post and may get visitors to the links you share, which is good. Good enough to say you should return the favour.
You can do this by either liking their posts (ones that you like) or even retweeting something nice that is shared by them or an account that they seem to be regularly promoting.
Being nice in this way I think shows you care and if you care or seem to care then you in many instances a valued member of the sharing economy called social media.

The danger of communicating with idiots

Other things to be mindful of is some accounts that follow you are spam, i.e. they are promoting things which are often revealed in their description.
This can happen everyday so its a bit of a hassle, simply scroll down and take a look at your followers names an descriptions.
Anything saying they sell followers or any aware words its best to block these people. The reason being is when social media leaders come to examine your account they will notice these things and may decide not to follow you, they won’t block you or anything its just nice to by association tick all the right boxes.
If you are just starting out and only have a small amount of followers even more reason to keep up to date on all this social media maintenance.
Also when you follow their posts will show up in your screen, many accounts are promotional accounts who spend all day promoting other people every second of the day.
You can see their name above all these posts, simply click on their profile if you do not like these reshares and unfollow them, I would not necessarily say block these people.

Block limits in the sharing economy

You see being mindful of blocking is good the sharing economy is what it is all about but easy for people starting out to get carried away. A couple of years ago civil servants in a report made on how best to share on Twitter said about fifteen times a day is good.
This means if you are using sites to share posts throughout the day one post between 40 – 50 minutes from 9 – 12 is good. If your audience is a global market it could in theory be even more since you will be sharing 24 hours throughout.
Bear in mind though finding, creating and really sharing great content can take about an hour before hand (and thats with using the helpful sites that I will be recommending in another post.
So how do you respond?
Read their real name and address them as such, depending on who they are use first name or if you want to be extra polite use their surname. For example you could call me Mr Bridge instead of Robert, mix it about a bit try abbreviating and see what the response is for example with me you could try Robbie hows it going or something like this, if you read the link go into something relevant to that post in your response, is their a response where you can reshare one of your links.
Be mindful though is your post any good or if their is a conflict of interest there the chances are you could upset them or trigger a response back which will only end up in losing a follower or putting yourself in a situation where you are in to deep to add any constructive value to what is already out there.
By keeping your communications happy and simple you will avoid any of these things.

The worst there that can happen is you will be sat there scratching your head thinking what to do and say depending of the level of your communications competence. Who know you might just get lucky and loads of people chime in the conversation, but really when you check the Twitter analytical metrics regardless of how many followers you have you will see not all that many impressions. ITs nothing to serious its just nice to know the basic rules of engagement these days online.
